Lake Guntersville State Park

A 45-min drive southeast of Huntsville takes you to one of the most beautiful resorts in the state! Camping, lodging (cabin or hotel style), golfing, swimming, fishing, mountain hiking and biking, and boating can all be done from this one place! [M]

Cathedral Caverns State Park

With an opening measuring 126 feet wide and 25 feet high, Cathedral Caverns has one of the largest openings of any commercial cave in the world. An easy concrete walking path takes you through amazing sites. And it’s only a 35-min drive east from downtown Huntsville. [M]

 


Desoto State Park

Tucked in the mountains of DeKalb County in Northeast Alabama, this park features waterfalls and most everything you else would expect from a mountain park. Plus it is next to Little River Canyon National Preserve and the quaint town of Mentone with cabin lodging and a number of Bed and Breakfasts. It’s about an hour-and-a-half drive east from downtown Huntsville. [M]

 

Joe Wheeler State Park

Camping, lodging (cabin or hotel style), swimming, fishing, hiking, biking, and boating can all be done from this one place! This park is an hour west of Huntsville along U.S. Hwy 72. [M]

Bucks Pocket State Park

This canyon atop Sand Mountain near Lake Guntersville has camping, hiking, overlooks, and an ATV trail. [M]
